Episode 76: Comic-Con Conquered

Long days, little sleep, pop culture overload, and yes, lots of video games. San Diego Comic-Con is an event like no other and we were back at Comic-Con 2014 to take it all in. This episode of the Random Nintendo Podcast is dedicated to our hands-on impressions of the biggest games Nintendo brought to the show: Super Smash Bros. for both Wii U and 3DS, Hyrule Warriors, Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Yoshi’s Woolly World, and both versions of Sonic Boom. We also share our thoughts on the event as a whole, as well as go beyond the walls of the San Diego Convention Center to bring you the latest news, including fresh Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire details, our take on Nintendo’s unexpected all-digital Club Nintendo rewards, and an analysis of June’s sales numbers.

Our Comic-Con coverage isn’t all talk, either. We’re also hosting a Comic-Con exclusive Super Smash Bros. shirt giveaway! The shirt (pictured below) not only features the Smash Bros. insignia on the front and the game’s logo on the back, but is also branded with a “Comic-Con Exclusive” emblem on its sleeve. To enter, simply leave a comment below telling us which upcoming Wii U or 3DS game you’re most excited about. We’ll announce the randomly-chosen winner in our next episode, so make sure to subscribe to the podcast on iTunes and follow us on Twitter @RandomNintendo so you don’t miss it.

As always, you can learn more about all of the games and news discussed in this episode via the links below. Each link lists a timestamp as well, allowing you to easily locate the segments that most interest you. You can also check out photos from our trip to Comic-Con in our gallery, Extra: The Sights of Comic-Con 2014. Enjoy the episode!

  1. Thats right!! Can’t believe I forgot about good ol Ness and Lucas. Then again I rarely play as them or against them lol Thanks!

  2. Hey guys. Good work on the podcast this week. I’m most excited for Smash Bros on Wii U this coming Holiday, but I am also pretty excited for Fantasy Life even though few gaming sites and podcasts really talk about the game. Hopefully I can win the t-shirt! Cheers!

  3. Thanks for the cast as always, so appreciated. I am most anticipating Captain Toad’s. Yes, seriously. Playing Super Mario 3D World I absolutely enjoyed the toad mini-game and wanted more. I think the reason I am is because when I played I thought this is great and could be its own thing. It was not a surprise in a way, because I had the thought, but then it was when it was announced at E3. I did not see it coming.

  4. I’m most excited for Smash, but there’s plenty of other games coming up that I’m looking forward to as well.

  5. It’s gotta be Bayonetta 2 for WiiU, that game is going to be amazing. Thanks for the giveaway, that shirt is awesome!

  6. I bought a Wii U just to play Mario Kart & Smash Bros. Now that I have MK8 I have to say Smash Bros. Is the only game I’m looking forward to also thanks for the chance to win a little piece of Comic-Con

  7. There are too many games to just choose one so many great selections and games coming out. Would love that shirt, been dieing to go to comic con one day and just to have a shirt from it would be amazing!

  8. Mainly excited for Smash because all the other games that I wanted to come out came out already and I can actually play it on my 3DS. There’s that new Harvest Moon game coming out for 3DS too though.
