Episode 88: Nintendo On Blast

Sometimes Nintendo does things we don’t understand. Sometimes they may start shipping limited edition New Nintendo 3DS systems in Europe before even announcing a release. Other times they may let Shigeru Miyamoto tell F-Zero fans that a new version of the game will only exist if it’s given a new control scheme. And on special occasions, the company may make new hardware that’s shaped like a donut. In this episode of the Random Nintendo Podcast, we discuss all these things as we breakdown Miyamoto’s recent interview with Smosh Games, weigh in on both the New 3DS Ambassador Edition and the Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D Limited Edition bundle, and look towards the future with the latest rumors on Nintendo’s next hardware. Plus, we share impressions of the Wii U Virtual Console version of Duck Hunt and rhythmic fighter KickBeat, as well as revisit the controversial Metroid: Other M.

  1. Hi Guys.

Thanks for yet another fantastic show! I always love the podcast.

While I love Nintendo, I do think some of their promotional / marketing ideas are just a little to random and bizarre. Like you mentioned, releasing the “new 3DS” Ambassador-edition only in Europe before even mentioning a Western release date anywhere is weird. And then I’m sorry, the Majora’s Mask 3D Collector’s Edition shortage really irritated me. There’s always such a ridiculously finite supply of Nintendo Collector’s Edition (i.e. Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, Majora’s Mask) it feels as if Nintendo is just leaving “money on the table” and potentially aggravating fans.

Anyways, I do love Nintendo and love the podcast, thanks again!

  2. Thanks and we’re glad you enjoyed it.

Funny how long the New 3DS has been a thing and we haven’t heard a single peep about it here. This sure is rough being a Nintendo fan right now with everything that is going on with the collectors items. In the distant future when all gaming media is digital, the collectors edition will simply be the physical version.

  3. Hi Jose.

I absolutely agree with you. As a huge fan of physical Collector’s Editions, it is a rough time to be a Nintendo fan. I’m still bummed I wasn’t able to nab a Majora’s Mask CE. I currently have all of the initial 18 Amiibos but it took a while and a lot of searching, but at least I only paid the MSRP and no more. And I totally agree, in the “digital future” the Collector’s Editions will the only physical versions. I’m hoping for a “new 3DS” release date in this week’s Nintendo Direct too.

Oh, and on that note I have to give Jason credit, he said he was expecting a Nintendo Direct very soon. And now tonight Nintendo’s announced one for this coming Wednesday the 14th. Nice call.

    1. Never mind my prediction, how about Jose mentioning a new Rhythm Heaven for 2015 and Nintendo then announcing one out of the blue during today’s Direct (in Japan, at least)? He must have some sort of psychic powers.
