This episode of the Random Nintendo Podcast is all about nostalgia with a modern twist.   1. Awesome post! I really hope hyrule warriors is a platinum club nintendo reward. I’m also really wanting Charizard amiibo from wave 4. Hope preorders come out soon.

    1. Thanks, Andrew! I recommend checking out Hyrule Warriors even if it doesn’t make the cut as a Platinum reward. It’s a fun mix of fan service and crazy hack-and-slashing.

  2. Hi Jason and Jose.

    I’m sorry I haven’t dropped by sooner to thank you for yet another absolutely fantastic Random Nintendo podcast. I always love the show and appreciate all the hard work and dedication that you both put into it every other week.

    Anyways, I wanted to tell you first off, that I really appreciated your break-down of the Nintendo YouTube affiliate program. That was the best explanation of the program that I’d gotten and I finally understood it. That said, “understanding” Nintendo’s idea there seems dubious at best. I absolutely loved your statement about how for every one thing NIntendo does right, they do like ten things wrong.

    Now don’t get me wrong, I love Nintendo games and I’ve been a life-long Nintendo fan, more so than for any other company or publisher. They absolutely make the best games. If you need proof, Metacritic’s rated Nintendo as 2014’s number one publisher. That said, while the quality of their work is unrivaled, their desire to tick off their fans is almost unparalleled. They are such a company of extremes, they produce things their fans absolutely love while at the same time trying to isolate the same fans.

    So here’s just a side question(s) for you, we’re either one of you hoping for the standard-sized “new 3DS” and what’s the Nintendo game you’re most looking forward to this year?

    I personally really wanted the standard-sized “new 3DS” and I’m most looking forward to Xenoblade Chronicles X I think, its always a toss-up between that and the new Zelda.

    1. Thanks, Satoshi! I think you’re spot on that Nintendo’s a company of extremes. It funny how they know what fans want for some things, but completely miss the mark on others. I suspect it’s really the higher-ups in the company causing the problems. NOA’s staff seems to actually be on the same page as fans about most stuff, YouTube included.

      I was torn between the standard-sized New 3DS and the XL model. I loved my old 3DS XL, so I was leaning towards getting the same size again, but I also really like the idea of the custom faceplates on the standard model. I guess NOA ended up making the decision for me with the New XL.

      Most anticipated game is a surprisingly tough question. I think the new Zelda is currently in the lead, but as a huge Star Fox fan, I’m also really looking forward to seeing how the Wii U version turns out. And then there’s Splatoon, which easily has the potential to become the Mario Kart of third-person shooters. I’m also looking forward to Xenoblade Chronicles 3D. I never played the Wii version, so this is my chance to jump in (and put my New XL to good use).

      1. Hi Jason.

        I agree that someone is definitely out of touch somewhere in the chain-of-command. While I agree that NOA is at least in the right with YouTube and the like, I think the late Club Nintendo was probably the biggest blight on their record. Here’s to hoping that the new “Club Nintendo” whatever it will be, will be a vast improvement. (And I’m sorry, I’m not trying to be overly hard on NOA, I’m still a bit miffed about them making my “new 3DS” choice for me.)

        So are you liking your “new 3DS XL”?

        I’ve no doubt that all the games you listed will more than likely be fantastic and worthy of being a “most anticipated” game of the year. I’m looking forward to all those games too. It will be very interesting and exciting to see how the new Star Fox turns out. The last truly great one was Star Fox 64.

        Oh and as a side-note, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D would be a great use of your “new 3DS XL.” I finished Xenoblade on Wii, all 120 hours of it and its a game that’s actually a great fit for a portable, there’s a lot of exploring and XP grinding involved. Don’t let that scare you off though, the game’s absolutely fantastic and 100% worth your time. Its the best RPG of at least the last decade.

        1. Being miffed is totally understandable. If you were dead set on getting the standard New 3DS, Nintendo basically left you out in the cold. The good news is that the New 3DS XL is great. I have a few issues with it that I discuss in our newer episode, but overall I’m very happy with the upgrade.

          Your praise of Xenoblade is just making me look forward to it that much more. 🙂

      My bad 🙂

      As of now, I’d have to say Splatoon. Up until this game, I was never too interested in team based shooters, maybe because they didn’t involve squid human hybrids that travel in ink. Closest I came to getting into it was Team Fortress 2. I am drawn to the more goofy looking and toony shooters. And while I love TF2, I am not very good at it and jumped in too late.
      Splatoon just seems to hit the right notes. Lets just hope its as fun as its looks.

  3. Hey Jose.

    No worries. While I’ll admit, at first Splatoon looked cool and interesting, I kind of lost interest, but recently I’m starting to get excited for the game again. The recent tweeted photos and stuff make the game look really cool/fun. I think the coolest part is that its not shoot-your-opponent like every other shooter out there, rather its more of a strategic play, you have to paint your environment.

    Plus, its a Nintendo game and the color palette and the world make it seem infinitely more fun and interesting visually than any other shooter out there. I love the super-soaker look of the weapons too. I just hope that it maintains a good, vibrant online community. But no matter what, the game looks fun. Nice choice.
