Episode 109: Tri Force Try Outs

If you’re a Zelda fan, this episode of the Random Nintendo Podcast is for you. We share hands-on impressions of the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes, weigh in on the not-yet-official HD remake of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and discuss new Hyrule Warriors Legends reveals. Not a big Zelda fan? We’ve still got you covered! This episode also features our takes on recent reports of the NX coming out as soon as next year, plus we examine how the lack of Nintendo Directs may be hurting Nintendo’s messaging and take a look at the improving amiibo situation. The episode then concludes with full impressions of Q.U.B.E: Director’s Cut, along with a discussion of why a Platinum Games-developed title like Transformers: Devastation somehow didn’t make it to Wii U.

  1. Hi Jason and Angel.

I’m happy to say I’m fully caught back up on the Podcast (finally) and am already looking forward to the next show!

Anyways, great show as always. You both always make me think about the Nintendo situation in a different way than I normally do and I like that. For example, I hadn’t thought of the game-release “news” as anything more than them being lazy; but I enjoyed your point that it was indicative of a larger non-Nintendo Direct problem. That big long press-releases or ‘tweets” were because in the current situation they don’t have Nintendo Directs to covey news.

Plus it is ridiculous that “Amiibo Festival” is Amiibo first, game second. That’s a long way from Nintendo of yesteryear. (Oh and keep laughing it was fun, no worries there.)

I’m also glad you both had a good time playing Tri-Force Hereos, when I played online my demo was so lagg-y that it was near unplayable. For long segments no one moved at all. Frankly it kind of turned me off to the game, but I’m glad that wasn’t the case for everyone. I still do enjoy its Link Between Worlds art-style.

Oh and long Amiibo section talk or not, I do enjoy hearing your exploits and opinions on the topic. While I’ve personally given up on the product, after having been burned by the Lucina/Robin Wave (3?) I still pick them up for other members of my family if they need them and I see them while I’m out, but I never actively do more than just a passing look now. (Definitely no pre-ordering.) But anyways, still really do enjoy hearing you talk about it and hope its getting better for fans in general.

Well thanks again for a great podcast! Really appreciate all your time and dedication to the show, you’re one of my favorite podcasts out there and definitely my favorite Nintendo one.So thanks again! Looking forward to the next show already!

    1. Thanks as always, Satoshi!

It’s funny that you mentioned the Nintendo Direct situation. I feel like right after we posted this episode, bigger gaming sites began to notice the issue too. Kotaku, for example, posted a whole article about the fan outcry for a new one. At this point, I’m starting to doubt we’ll see one before 2016, but I’d be happy to be wrong.

That’s a bummer about the Tri Force Heroes demo. We were lucky to not experience any lag first hand, but I did see complaints of issues similar to yours on gaming forums. I’m hopeful the online trial was as much a server stress test for Nintendo as it was a demo for us, so perhaps it’ll be fixed now that the finished game is out?

  2. Hey Jason.

Its seems after last night Investor’s Meeting and comments by the new president (can’t remember how to spell his name) that the company has un-announced games planned to release before the end of the year, plus his earlier comments about a new Nintendo Direct before the year’s end, that those two events may occur simultaneously. I hope that’s the case. And I really think you guys were just ahead of the Nintendo Direct-curve-problem, nicely done! (Like I said before, really appreciate all your opinions and discussions.) Keep up the great work!

    1. Yeah, there was definitely some interesting (and unexpected) news that came out of the financial briefing. As you can imagine, we have a lot to say about it in our new episode. 🙂

    1. I saw the restocks first hand at Best Buy, but you raise a good point about the underlying problem with anecdotal evidence: it may not be true everywhere. Hopefully Nintendo can get its act together fully so everyone, everywhere can get the amiibo they want.

  3. I remember, in 1999, when my older brother saved up his money, just to buy me a gameboy color in pink. I was so happy, and every evening we used to play pokemon together. I still have my old gbc and it’s still in great condition and I will always keep it. It’s still my favourite console.
