We came, we saw, we stood in long lines, we got no sleep, and we played a whole bunch of games. Another E3 is in the books and we’ve got a lot to say about it in this episode of the Random Nintendo Podcast. We share hands-on impressions of over a dozen upcoming games big and small, including heavy hitters like Luigi’s Mansion 3, Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Pokemon Sword and Shield, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. Plus, we discuss the surprise of Banjo-Kazooie in Smash Bros., share our Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 theories, and examine the changing nature of the convention itself.

  1. My favorite announcement was Banjo-Kazooie in Smash. I loved the Breath of the Wild sequel and never saw that coming, but I loved the fanfare and universal excitement for Banjo and what it means on a big level in the world of gaming. Seeing Phil Spencer of Xbox tweet about it was really cool! Very classy of him. I watched the Direct in my car and literally cheered and clapped during the Banjo teaser. Most of Nintendo’s E3 was what I expected, and I was already in for the big Nintendo titles.

Underrated surprise for me: the new Yooka Laylee. I watched them play it on Treehouse and I’m really tempted to get it now! I previously commented on another episode how disappointed I was in the first one, but I like the new 2D-platformer style they’re going with. I’ll wait to see more, but I’m cautiously optimistic about it despite the first one being so mediocre.

Also I’m going to try to go to Nintendo’s NYC store next year to watch E3! I only live 3 hours from NYC, and I love the reaction videos and would love to be a part of that… especially if it’s for new BotW footage or (someday) a new Metroid title. (Prime 4, MP Trilogy, new 2D title, old 2D collection, whatever.)
