Episode 133: That’s The Spirit
What happens when a familiar gaming face goes to a new place? Phoenix Wright does it with a trip to the kingdom of Khura’in in Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice, and Mario does it with a jump to iOS with Super Mario Run – and we’re covering both in this episode of the Random Nintendo Podcast. The show first kicks off with a brief assessment of the ongoing wait for NX news, before we fully dive into Super Mario Run with a breakdown of what’s in store for iOS players and the game’s significance to Nintendo as a whole. From there, we shift to Pokemon, discussing upcoming improvements to Pokemon Go (Apple Watch support! The buddy system!) and the latest wave of franchise shake-ups in Pokemon Sun & Moon. The show then concludes with a look at Nintendo’s August sales numbers, plus those titular first impressions of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney – Spirit of Justice.

I really enjoy your show. Thanks for putting it out.
I’m having a hard time understanding who the 12 hour shift is catering to. It seems to benefit people who game during the day. I assume kids game mostly in the evening or at night during the academic year. I assume adults do so year round. Is this just for the weekends? The irony is that part of the reason I was going to buy Moon is that 90% of gaming is done after 8pm. I have a hard time believing their are more customers who want to play Moon during the day than at night. I find it even stranger that they would make both versions nonoptimal for night time play. Am I missing something>
Thanks, Jim! Glad to hear you enjoyed the show (and sorry for taking so long to reply!).
Like I mentioned during the show, I’m 100% in the same boat as you when it comes to the logic of the 12 hour shift. It feels like such an odd move since regardless of which version you get, you’re likely playing around the same time every day, as you pointed out. So whether it’s time shifted or not, you’re still going to probably need to manually change your 3DS clock at least once to get all the Pokemon.
Hi Guys!
Great show as always! I really enjoyed it. With everything going on with Nintendo its kind of crazy to think that we still don’t “officially” know what the NX is. That said, its Sunday morning right now and by late tonight/Monday morning we could have an announcement of the NX reveal event. I keep thinking every Sunday night we will and no such luck yet. I do however absolutely believe all the “rumors” are spot-on. When everyone’s saying thing and the Pokemon Company goes on record talking about it changing a home-console handheld environment, isn’t that confirmation enough?
Well anyways, thanks again for the show, always love it. Looking forward to the new one already!
Thanks, Satoshi!
It’s funny, this comment is a few weeks behind, yet everything you said about the NX situation *still* hasn’t changed. Hopefully that comes to an end soon!
