Episode 268: Making Ten-Year
It’s our tenth anniversary, and to celebrate, we have a very special episode of the Random Nintendo Podcast for you. Instead of the three of us, there are five as we host a roundtable with everyone who’s made an appearance over our 10-year history. And instead of the usual news cycle, we’re reflecting on the past decade that made the show, from the games and systems to events and punny episode titles.
Of course, like any good birthday, we’ve also got party favors. Between now and the end of the year, we are giving away $100 in eShop credits to thank you, the listeners, for making this all possible. Random Nintendo would not be where it is today without each and every one of you, so we want to bring the party to you wherever you are! Here, it’s in comments of this blog post. Leave a reply below before December 4 telling us your favorite Nintendo memory of the past decade for a chance to win one of two $20 eShop gift cards. Then, follow us on Twitter @RandomNintendo.and subscribe to our YouTube Channel for your shot at additional gift cards throughout December.
If you enjoy the show, be sure to also subscribe to us on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, or your favorite podcasting app. We don’t have any time stamps this episode since it was more of a free-wheeling look back, so we’ll instead leave you with this: THANK YOU! Thank you for listening, reading, watching, and following us for the past decade. Enjoy the roundtable!

(Approximately 30 minutes in, Kevin references a Smash Bros. belt. Here it is!)
Playing my very first mario game on the switch was a great experience. Dont have the switch for a long time now.
I would probably say in July, finally getting a switch and playing Zelda: Breath of The Wild as my first switch game.
It’s between getting to play Metroid Dread (been waiting so long for this sequel) and when we saw the trailer for Bayonetta 3 during the Direct! We finally got some news about her 🙂
But I think it’s Metroid Dread!
I guess that would be playing through a first-party Nintendo exclusive for the first time ever on a Nintendo console (Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury in my case). And yes, I am that new to the wonderful Nintendo franchise. I enjoy indie games and games from big publishers in equal measure, but Switch exclusives is where my adorable portable console shines the brightest. In case of a win, I’ll put the funds towards the purchase of the upcoming Kirby game. Congrats on 10 year anniversary!
Of the last decade, my favorite moment has been playing Breath of the Wild on the go. I loved my time with the Wii, the 3DS was a great change of pace to the DS, and the Wii U was special as it was a birthday present, but BoTW on the go… it was so good. Playing on the TV was great and looked pretty good, but having it in my hands while in bed… Nothing can top that. It’s such a game changer, switching up the way I play. (Those puns are for Jason and Jason only, Kevin.)
I love Nintendo and what you guys are doing is fantastic. I’m glad that I found you guys a while ago (circa 2014) and was surprised by Kevin’s addition. I think one of my first episodes I listened to was one with Elvis and I enjoyed the 3 host energy. Glad that Kevin has been added to round it out. There was no issue with Jason and Angel, but Kevin has made this podcast feel more whole. The addition of Quarantine Chronicles was good relief for such an odd pandemic year, and you guys always bring it every episode. I am a fan and hope you guys can continue to podcast for many years to come. Here for every minute of it. Congrats! Keep it up!
Congrats on 10 years, RN crew! Awesome accomplishment. Been listening since 2015 and I always enjoy your takes on the latest Nintendo news. I grew up a Nintendo die-hard fan, but fell out a bit for a few years. I fell in love with it again in 2014 with the 3DS and Wii U (somehow), and I credit RN for helping me find my passion again. So thank you!
For me, there have been a lot of highlights over the past 10 years and it’s hard to narrow it down to one, so here’s two: Banjo and Kazooie being announced for Smash, because I never thought they’d return to Nintendo in any way and I literally teared up when that happened. The other is the Switch and Breath of the Wild launch. I took a half-day from work to pick up my Switch and BOTW, and just getting lost in that world and the magic of the Switch and everything that day is such a special memory.
Looking forward to the next 10 years! (Maybe Prime 4 will be released by your 20th anniversary?!)
My favorite Nintendo moment of the last 10 years had to be the Banjo & Kazooie Smash reveal. That moment of realizing they were back where they belong on a nintendo console, brought me so much happiness. Besides that it probably be the rise of the Switch, seeing Nintendo back to making great games, and being a driving force in the bussiness again.
First of all, congrats on your 10-year anniversary. What a run! My favorite Nintendo memory over the last decade, you ask? Woah, not so fast please. I’ve been gaming on Switch for a little bit less than a year, and this is my first Nintendo console, so my memories are rather limited in this regard. Anyways, the best memory so far is undoubtedly playing first-party games, which might sound somewhat generic, but this is totally true. Super Mario Odyssey. Skyward Sword HD and Metroid Dread just blew my mind and left me hungry for more. Thanks for reading this and have fun creating content for more years to come.
Congrats to the team! My best memory of the past decade would be getting the Wii U. We had just moved out and times were pretty rough, but we got the Wii U as a Christmas gift and were able to get through some tough times with my little brother. This helped a lot!
Best gaming memory for me is booting up BotW for the first time on my Switch. I was and still am blown away by the art and gameplay. Close second would be Persona 5 Strikers, absolutely love that game
Congrats to the team behind Random Nintendo! You guys are amazing! There are really a lot of Nintendo Switch! First off, I won’t forget the time I got my Switch. It was awesome! The feeling of being a kid again – attaching the joy cons into the console, getting to hear the “click” when they attached, powering on the console for the first time and seeing and hearing the iconic Nintendo Switch intro. OMG, that was something! And then I got to play Zelda Breath of The Wild! I mean… whaaaaat?! The graphics is amazing, it feels so new and nostalgic at the same time! I’m glad I’m one of those who actually got the first version of the Switch because I’ve spent thousand of hours playing games – I just love how portable it is and how I’m free to play whenever and wherever I can. Proud Nintendo fun here 🙂
I think that my favorite memory has to be a tie. The first one is waiting in line for the midnight release of the Switch and Breath of The Wild. I couldn’t get a pre-order in and I wanted it so it was one of the few times I did a midnight release for something. I was the first one in line and got one of the few Switches that my local Wal-Mart had. The second memory I have is when Banjo & Kazooie finally got revealed for Smash Ultimate. He had been my most wanted for years. During that E3 I was watching it with some family and aglfter Hero got revealed they were telling me sorry that Banjo wasn’t getting in and sorta mocking me for my hype. When he finally got revealed it was one of the happiest moments I’ve ever had with gaming.
The best memory I’ve had with Nintendo as of late is the summer that they released Pokemon Go. It was really nice to have a bunch of friends interested in Pokemon again and it was fun to walk around with a group of friends all hunting Pokemon and then run into more people playing it. It was very fun.
My favorite Nintendo memory of the last decade has to be the launch of the Nintendo Switch. It was some great days since finally we got a new console after the failure of the Wii U (I loved it but still). So many great games were finally coming to the Nintendo Switch and my friends were also buying it! Now it’s my favorite console of all time.
Thanks for all the entries and kind words, everyone! Our two winners have been announced in Episode 269, which is available now.
