Episode 135: Wii Remember

It’s mid-October and the NX still hasn’t been revealed. Yet instead of sitting and twiddling our thumbs, we decided to do something a bit different. We revisited some forgotten Wii classics, and in this episode of the Random Nintendo Podcast, we’re bringing you four of them and explaining why even in 2016, these are games you need to experience. Of course, that’s not to say there’s no NX news. So in this episode, we’re also diving into recent rumors that the NX may actually play different types of games depending on whether you’re at home or on the go. And speaking of rumors, we additionally weigh in on reports of what Nintendo’s first Universal Studios attractions may be. All that, plus the latest on Pokemon,  a look at Nintendo’s low-budget holiday plans, and our final verdict on Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney − Spirit of Justice, await in Episode 135!

  1. Hey Jason and Angel!

First off, thank you as always for yet another fantastic podcast! All your hard work is very appreciated! Like your N64 throwback, I really enjoyed your Wii one as well.

For myself, while the game certainly isn’t an under-rated un-explored gem, one of my favorite games on the system was Wii Sports. It was a game that could I could play with anyone and it was absolute proof and sale on concept in one simple, remote control-sized device. Of course, if we are talking under-rated games, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, while certainly not the best Fire Emblem game, it was a nice continuation of GCN’s Path of Radiance. And then fighting game Tatsunko vs. Capcom was an absolutely fantastic fighting game! I think better than the bigger Marvel vs. Capcom series in terms of character roster and overall execution. And it was definitely a game not enough people played.

Oh, and I’m so very glad we FINALLY have NX, I mean Switch details, its about time! 🙂
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts and impressions on the reveal/system! I personally think that it looks absolutely fantastic, its basically everything we want, home console and portable in one sleek, relatively powerful piece of hardware. I’m so happy to see all the very positive buzz/press for the system as well. Its not often enough that Nintendo gets the credit they deserve for the games and hardware they produce. I was just reading yesterday that the YouTube reveal has over 23 million views with an overall 95+% positivity on it. For anything thats fantastic, for Nintendo its a miracle!

Well anyways, I’m sure there will be plenty of Switch discussions to be had in the days/weeks to come. The full-everything reveal is as close as January 12th. Can’t wait to hear what you both and whoever else maybe on the next show has to say about it! Really, really, looking forward to the next Podcast! Thanks again for all you do!

    1. Thanks, Satoshi!

Looking back, Wii Sports ended up by far being the most crucial game for Wii. I’ve always wondered how the system would have done if it didn’t have such a clear showcase of its capabilities in such a universally appealing way. Those are great hidden gems too. I’ve always regretted not playing Radiant Dawn.

I’m also very happy to finally (finally!) know what the NX is. We have quite a meaty conversation about the Switch in our new episode: http://randomnintendo.com/2016/10/31/episode-136-switching-it-up/
