We don’t know about you, but Quarantine Chronicles is feelin’ 22. We’re feeling pretty good. RNHQ has started to get a little more lenient these last couple of weeks and they’ve been playing music through the gulag speakers. Taylor Swift’s Red to be exact. On loop. No, that’s not Stockholm syndrome kicking in…

In a QC first, today’s episode is focused on a singular topic. What is that topic? Well if you haven’t guessed by the episode’s title, after years of fan support/outcry, we are finally blessed/cursed with Zack Snyder’s Justice League, a.k.a. The Snyder Cut. How did we feel about it? Well, you’re just gonna have to listen to find out.

  1. Excellent analysis! I kept saying “Exactly!” while listening to this episode. I never bothered with the Whedon cut, but I thought the Snyder cut was fine… kind of forgettable? I watched over the course of a week and already forgot most of the early stuff.

I liked your takes on this movie and the Snyderverse in general, although I have to say I will always stand up for 300. I know you guys didn’t discuss it, but to me that movie was innovative and original and excellent. Sadly it was his first, so he peaked at the beginning of his career… but I’m still a fan of that one.

I think the more interesting piece of all this is the fan campaign saga. I agree that it sets a dangerous precedent, and sometimes it’s good (Sonic) and sometimes terrible (Star Wars… although The Last Jedi was terrible). Very curious to see where it goes from here. I think it comes down to if a creator understands the fan base and source material, and the studio doesn’t interfere, it’ll usually work out. It’s when a studio interferes or creator goes off the rails that things fall apart. I’m not saying creator’s must cater to fans, but the studio needs to support them regardless.

All that being said, it is going to be FASCINATING to see the response to the upcoming Mario movie… Obviously Nintendo isn’t prone to bow to fan demands, but that is one movie with a very vocal, passionate fanbase that they better get right or the backlash could be ugly… and I really don’t know HOW you get that movie right.

Also totally agreed on the epilogue. That scene isn’t even in the same league as The Dark Knight’s interrogation scene (or even rooftop scene). I also think the Arkham games (especially City) show the Batman-Joker dynamic in a much more compelling way.

Apologies for the lengthy comment, but I figured a long episode for a (overly) long movie warrants a long response!

P.S. One fan campaign I will always support (and I believe Kevin does too): #SaveDaredevil!
